Her presentation is interesting, educational, and definitely applicable wood turners, as she is a wood turner as well. Seri shares her vast expertise gained as head of a research lab at the university. Learn how to use a variety of nature's fungi, which are readily available, to add subtle colours or spalting to wood in a semi-controlled manner |

The content of the demo will cover the differences between the two methods, the molds, the use of vacuum versus pressure. There will be a casting demonstration with pen blanks and other items. There will be a presentation on the different types of casting uses for items other than pens, which will include bowls and other items that can be turned on the lathe. |

| Saturday, September 24th, 2011 | GBWG Monthly Meeting | Carl Durance will demonstrate how to embellish small wood turnings through the incorporation of simple Celtic knot design, creating a bracelet as an example. The demonstration will include the use of various cutting and gluing jigs; cutting veneers and gluing veneers to form laminates; cutting, inserting the laminates, and gluing the blank; and turning and finishing the laminated blank to yield a Celtic knot bracelet. Explanation of how to apply these techniques to other projects, such as pens and bottle stoppers, will be covered. |

This is a rare opportunity for you witness wood turning at its best. Jimmy is widely acclaimed for his demonstrations.
The normal October monthly meeting has been cancelled. Members in good standing are invited to attend this extraordinary guild event for a cost of $10 to cover lunch. Non-members are welcome to attend for a cost of $40 which includes lunch, and for an additional $10 become a member of GBWG for 2012. |

In preparation for next year, please bring lots of ideas of topics for demonstrations during the monthly meetings so that the executive knows what you really want to see, and thus can plan to meet your wishes! |
| Saturday, January 21st, 2012 | GBWG Monthly Meeting | Carl Durance and Ray Fenton will launch the GBWG new year with a challenge to the membership, to turn a bowl-from-a-board, which will be used as a fund raiser for the Outdoor Education Centre, increasing the guilds support of our community. Carl will demonstrate the technique to turn a bowl-from-a-board, to refresh memories of the informative session given by Dirk Hoogendoorn last year. Ray will provide bowl-from-a-board kits, a set of pre-cut rings. We encourage all members to join in this fun and learning venture. A Reminder: Please arrange with Marion Gibson to pay your 2012 GBWG membership dues during the January meeting, or as soon as possible. |
