Woodturning Tips & Jigs

Bandsaw Jig
by Jeff Parsons
Please review an important notice before using this woodturning tip

The following is a simple jig for cutting round or square stock in a bandsaw.

Without a jig of this type disastrous results can occur when trying to hold round wood stock freehand. A case in point happened in our club's shop when a member tried to cut a 6" log which resulted in a broken blade . . . Lucky no one was hurt this time as injuries can result in everything from a pinched finger to a severe laceration.

I built this jig over 30 years ago when I started my business and as you can see it's very simple to build using 2" X 6" lumber. The only difficult part is making sure the guide strip is square to the base which can be done easily with a router or tablesaw. If you don't have either of these just line up the piece and attach with screws or small brads. The angles are 45 degrees.
