Woodturning Tips & Jigs

Malt Vinegar Rust Remover
from Ken Goldspink
Please review an important notice before using this woodturning tip

The following tip comes from Ken Goldspink of the Grey-Bruce Woodturners Guild.
Ken tells of picking up a 1/2" Jacobs Chuck at a flea market in last year which while mechanically sound, was covered in rust. Here's his solution.

"I filled a glass bowl with enough Malt Vinegar to cover the Jacobs Chuck and left it overnight. In the morning that chuck was gleaming when I fished it out. I oiled it and it has worked smothly ever since. Try immersing a tarnished penny in vinegar, it will look like it came out of the mint."
